In the year ended June 2004, there were 2,796,889 visitors to the Sunshine Coast region. Of these 92% (2,567,000) were domestic visitors & 8% (229,889) were international visitors.
There were a total  of 12,821,045 visitor nights spent in the Sunshine Coast region. Domestic visitors 84% (10,800,000) & International visitors 16% (2,021,045).

Between 2001 & 2004, domestic visitors to the Sunshine Coast region increased by 5.5%, with visitor nights increasing by 2.2%.
69%  (1,781,000) were intrastate (from Qld) visitors & 31% (786,000) were interstate visitors (from other parts of Australia).
The Sunshine Coast’s top 5 domestic markets were Brisbane (44%), rest of Queensland (26%), Sydney 10%, Melbourne (8%) & rest of NSW (7%).

Visitors from Sydney increased by 10.8% between 2001 & 2004.
The Sunshine Coastâ’s top 3 international markets were New Zealand (35%) the UK (26%) & Europe, excl. UK & Germany (12%), Germany (6%) & USA (6%).

International visitors stayed an average 8.8 nights on the Sunshine Coast.

Visitors from New Zealand increased 11% between 2001 & 2004.
The most popular activities for visitors in order were: Dining Out/Restaurants, visiting friends & relatives, going to the beach (swimming, surfing, diving), going shopping, general sightseeing & pubs, clubs & discos.

The Sunshine Coast is more dependent on tourism than other Qld regions, with the 4th largest share of Queensland tourism behind Brisbane, the Gold Coast & Tropical North Queensland.
