Buderim Mountain is volcanic in origin, covered with rich red soil,
some 200 metres above sea level & is only minutes away from the world-class beaches of Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Buderim's European history has rural beginnings with timber-gathering
prominent in the mid-1800's, giving way to the farming of sugar cane, bananas, citrus, coffee &, of course, ginger. Buderim Ginger is now a brand name recognized worldwide. The first permanent
settlement occurred circa 1860. The Buderim Mountain State School followed in 1875. Buderim’s living history is on display daily from 10am to 4pm at the Pioneer Cottage.
BUDERIM, the name, is from the local aboriginal word for the
hairpin honeysuckle, (Badderam) Banksia Spinulosa var. Collina, which grew freely on Buderim's slopes.
